We work closely with schools to support children to access both Shaping Education and the school to help them further develop. We also work collaboratively with parents and all stakeholders to ensure that the best possible outcomes for all children.
EOTAS (Education Other Than at School)
Shaping Education is able to provide education or special educational provision for children or young people outside of a formal educational setting. It can only be agreed upon in conjunction with the Local Authority via an EHC needs assessment, a reassessment of needs or at the EHCP annual review. This is provided in a safe and calm environment with the appropriate support.
HOME LEARNING
Shaping Education works collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that a calm and safe learning environment is provided for the child. A tutor will attend the home of the child to ensure they feel comfortable, and safe in their learning environment. At Shaping Education, we will work with all stakeholders to support the child’s transition either back to school or to be in a different environment where the child feels safe and is able to thrive.
IMPROVING ATTENDANCE (SUPPORTING CHILDREN TO ATTEND SCHOOL)
At SHAPING EDUCATION, we understand the unique challenges that children, often with neurodiverse needs, face in mainstream school. We provide personalised tuition to ensure that each child receives the right type of specialised support they need to achieve their full potential. Our approach is to prioritise their wellbeing and teach them in a way that works for them, taking into account their individual needs and learning styles with no pressure.
National attendance figures in primary and secondary schools have been impacted by Covid-19 and children’s poor mental health. School attendance in England dropped significantly, with many children struggling to attend school due to the effects of the pandemic. There is an increase in children’s poor mental health, and this has a significant impact on their attendance, which puts more pressure on the child and their family. Read More
ONLINE LEARNING
Shaping Education is able to offer online learning for any child not ready for face to face teaching and learning. The learning is planned and differentiated appropriately, and we ensure that all children have the appropriate resources and support.
SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS
Shaping Education works with a range of schools to support children who are unable to attend school due to emotional-based school avoidance (EBSA) factors caused by trauma/s, ill social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH), and/or undiagnosed SEND needs.
Often low attendance creates gaps in knowledge, and to support them, we offer a range of tuition styles such as flexi-learning, phased timetables, online, face-to-face, and in-school tuition, and many more. Read More
SMALL GROUP TUITION
Shaping Education tuition offers small-group learning for children of all ages and abilities. We recognise that tuition has a range of benefits and is a popular choice of learning for parents and carers who want to give their children an extra boost in their studies.
One of the key benefits of small group tuition is that it still allows students to receive personalised attention from an experienced tutor. With a smaller class size, our tutors are able to work closely with each child, identifying their strengths and weaknesses, and tailoring their teaching to meet their individual needs. This personalised approach can be particularly effective for children who may struggle to keep up in larger classes, or who may benefit from extra support in certain areas. Read More
TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH
Shaping Education tutors’ use a trauma-informed approach by creating a safe and supportive environment, building trust and providing choice and control. By doing so, we help children who have experienced trauma to feel safe, supported, and valued.
WHAT IS A TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH
A trauma-informed approach is an approach that recognises the widespread impact of trauma and the potential for re-traumatisation. It is an approach that is grounded in an understanding of the neurobiology of trauma and the ways in which trauma can affect a child’s behaviour, emotions, and learning. Read More
SHAPING EDUCATION SUPPORTS A TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH BY:
Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment
We recognise that children who have experienced trauma may feel anxious, overwhelmed, or unsafe. That’s why we create a safe and supportive environment in which children can feel comfortable and secure.
Building Trust and Relationships
We understand that children who have experienced trauma may struggle to trust others. That’s why we focus on building trusting relationships with each child, taking the time to get to know them and understand their individual needs.
Providing Choice and Control
We recognise that children who have experienced trauma may feel a sense of powerlessness. That’s why we provide children with choice and control over their learning, allowing them to take ownership of their progress.
Recognising and Responding to Trauma
We understand that trauma can have a significant impact on a child’s behaviour, emotions, and learning. That’s why we recognise and respond to signs of trauma, providing children with the support and resources they need to succeed.
By using a trauma-informed approach to our tuition and well-being services, we can help children who have experienced trauma to feel safe, supported, and valued. We can also help them develop the resilience, coping skills, and emotional regulation they need to succeed academically and in life.
